Except in La mujer del arquitecto, the language, the situations, and the general conceptions of the stories in this collection are intended to arouse laughter. It is on account Of their humorous quality that they have been chosen.
In general the subject matter of the stories is very simple. However, the style has real difficulties. The conversations are Often colloquial and idiomatic. Some attempt has been made in the notes and in the vocabulary to cope with these difficulties. SO far as subject matter is concerned, the stories might be read at the end Of the second year in high schools or at the end Of the first year in colleges. From the point of view of linguistic difficulty they would perhaps be more successful if used in the third year in high schools, or in the second year in colleges.
