Originally produced for Merchant Navy Officers who were studying for their statutory examinations, this edition has been enlarged, although the simplicity of the sketching and conciseness of the accompanying notes in the original edition has been maintained.;Since the first edition was published, metrication has been introduced and numerous changes have taken place in both Load Line and Classification Society Rules. This has necessitated a complete revision of most of the text and sketches and the opportunity has been taken to rearrange the order of presentation.
