She had a past which explains her behaviour - most of the time. She had choices but she found pleasure in choosing the wrong ones. Rita stands over the body of the man she just killed, watching his body shaking and gasping for his last breath of air. Did she need to kill him? Maybe not, but she chose to. When she finds herself under threat and in order to save the life of someone she cares for, she will do anything. Rita used to see herself as a good person, who was simply forced by circumstances to do things that good people didn't do. She knew better of course, but everybody cuts corners and makes choices. She made hers and now she has to live with it.
