Publisher's Synopsis

This book is a collection of surviving fragments of the Latin dictionary compiled by the Roman grammarian Sextus Pompeius Festus in the second century BC. The fragments were preserved in different medieval manuscripts, and were later assembled and edited by various scholars, including 19th-century German philologist Emil Thewrewk von Ponor. Despite (or perhaps because of) its fragmentary nature, the Latin dictionary of Festus remains an important reference for scholars of Latin language and literature.

This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
