Publisher's Synopsis
This is a book about my journey with self-harm and Autism. While Autism is not a mental illness situations that presented themselves in my life led me to become mentally ill and caused me to self-harm in the past. It was not the Autism that was causing me to self-harm, it was my frustration with the services that were being provided to me that led me to self-harm. Autism is a real social disorder and social skills coaching is a real treatment for Autism. It is very frustrating that insurance companies do not consider social skills as an approved intervention or treatment option for Autism. This book will explain why I feel like social skills coaching could really improve my life and how the insurance companies refusal to provide this intervention and treatment caused me to self-harm. Many people self-harm for numerous reasons. If you know someone who self-harms it is important to talk to them and listen to everything that they have to say. You may not be able to prevent them from cutting or whatever form of behavior they are accessing to self-harm but you will without a doubt make a difference in their life just by listening and being there for them. It is my goal that this book will help you understand a friend or loved one who might be self-harming and then become more equipped and ready to be there for them and help them help themselves.
