Publisher's Synopsis
'Denise Levertov is America's foremost contemporary woman poet' (Library Journal). This Selected Poems, published in 1986, covered all Denise Levertov's collections up to Candles in Babylon (1982), and was her first retrospective edition to be published in the UK. Her then latest collection, Oblique Prayers, was published by Bloodaxe at the time. The selection was made by Bloodaxe Books in consultation with Denise Levertov, with helpful suggestions provided by Linda Anderson and Cynthia Fuller. Some minor revisions to a small number of poems were made by the author for this edition. It was superseded by New Selected Poems, a different selection, edited by Paul A. Lacey, posthumously published in 2003.
