The life of Edgar Allan' Poe, of all American men of letters, is by far the most interesting to study. He was the child of the direst poverty and of the greatest genius. Since his death in Baltimore, Sunday morning, October 7, 1849, his fame has increased in all lands. This can be said of few American writers. Tennyson declared of Poe in 1885.
