Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Select Essays of Thomas De Quincey, Vol. 1: Narrative Imaginative
No liberties have been taken with De Quincey's text. The papers are printed exactly as De Quincey left them after his final revision Of them for the Collective Edition of his works, all his own footnotes included. Even in the particulars of paragraphing and punctuation there has been no change. De Quincey had strict rules of his own in such matters; and, in the case of so scholarly and careful a writer, the preservation of his own paragraphing and pointing, even where they might not quite accord with the notions of the editor, has seemed, accordingly, a duty.
