Publisher's Synopsis
An improved understanding of reservoirs is required for optimal exploitation of hydrocarbon resources, and this has led geophysics to develop special techniques in collaboration with experts from other disciplines (for example geologists, well-log analysts and oil production engineers). Surface seismic reflection provides an image of the subsurface strata in terms of travel time. To obtain more precise depth calibrations than those based on inferred seismic velocities, geophysicists employ a number of borehole-based techniques such as sonic logging, uphole surveys and more recently, vertical seismic profiling which has also been used to achieve a better identification of multiple events.;This book gives a practical description of the different seismic survey methods used in boreholes as well as their applications in oil exploration and reservoir geophysics.
