Publisher's Synopsis
Surveys show that more than one in five adults were sexually abused during childhood. That means there are potentially 45 million adults now living in the US who were sexually abused as children. As many as one in three girls and one in seven boys will be sexually abused at some point in their childhood. Estimates suggest that only 3% of all cases of child sexual abuse and only 12% of rapes involving children are ever reported to police. 82% of women in corrections are victims of physical or sexual abuse as children. Most victims of sexual assault know the person who assaulted them.
