Marshal Seth Benteen's problems begin when he discovers a broken-wheeled wagon, carrying a secret cargo of gold. There would be trouble in Jewel Creek if the whole town knew what he'd found. The secret organization, Freedom Brotherhood, is suspected of being involved, and Benteen hides the gold. But then his friend is murdered and the gold is stolen. Benteen must recover the gold and solve the murder if he is to stop a revolution and save his own life.
