Publisher's Synopsis
Threadra "Redd" Christensen has lived most of her life in Clarksdale, Utah and believes one hundred percent she is in happy valley. She and her loving husband Matt live with her Granny and Matt's mother Libby, on Main Street next to the post office. From their porch swing they observe many of the town folk who come by every day to pick up their mail from their rented boxes. Redd's Granny can't kick her southern upbringing although she's lived in Clarksdale for over 50 years. She fries everything she cooks, sweetens her tea to gagging, makes her coffee like syrup and still fishes with a cane pole using worms for bait. Then there is Redd's Aunt Maddie with her genius IQ and eccentricity that works well for her. Maddie's thirst for life and living to be very old is number one on her Bucket List. Meet Bella with her tribe of grown but needy children and Redd's best man friend Cody Clark who is overly flamboyant in this kick back nostalgic town and overly generous with his Butterfinger candy bars he brings to Granny. $pendrite a corporate chain of discount stores is building a new store on a side street, but wants to tear down the Opera House theater for a right-a-way into their parking lot. Redd can't explain the obsession she has to bring the town together to "save" the crumbling derelict theater built a hundred years ago. She fights with the Mayor, enlists the help of anyone who will volunteer and agonizes over mountains of paper work and obstacles that seem too overwhelming to surpass. The most detrimental couple is Grant and Delia Taylor who own the Opera House and the land it sits on. Although they go through the motions of being sympathetic with the possibility of a restoration project, which would make the theater profitable, they are busy making behind closed doors deals. The town is divided. The store offers needed employment opportunities, while restoring the boarded up Opera House and making it a historical landmark is iffy at best. Share in the love and appreciation of Redd's hilarious family and friends. Follow the dilemma facing this small peaceful town and how it affects the lives of these uniquely profound people who are friendly, funny and fantastic.
