This volume contains a selection of the contributions to the First World Scientific Congress of Golf, held at the University of St Andrews, 9th-13th July 1990. The broad aim of both the book and the congress is to bridge the gap between golf researchers and practitioners.;The volume is divided into four parts: human factors, performance statistics, technology and equipment and golf course management and the environment. The book is intended as a reference work for research workers, coaches and equipment manufacturers, as well as being of some interest to the many specialists in other fields to whom golf science is of interest. The book aims to stimulate further research of practical value to the game and to help raise the standard of play at all levels without diminishing the fundamental enjoyment of the game.
