Publisher's Synopsis
Black and white edition. When the heart of the black bear habitat and rare plants communities in Central Georgia were threatened by a massive housing development, Outdoor Writer John Trussell went to work to save it. He formed "Save Oaky Woods" a non - profit conservation group to preserve the Oaky Woods Wildlife Management Area. He began a positive public relations program that involved many free hikes for school kids and teachers, boy and girl scouts, tv and newspaper reporters and governmental officials. After many years of effort, the process paid off and in December 2010 the State of Georgia moved to purchase Oaky Woods for 29 million dollars and permanently added it to it's Wildlife Management Area program. Thus this very valuable natural area will benefit all Georgians and future generations for many years to come.
