Philip loved the Army and he loved his job. He was a combat medic and dealt with traumatic injuries in Afghanistan until his convoy was ambushed and most of his team were killed. Burned and with shrapnel wounds all over his chest, the surgeon saved him, but his Army career was over.
Wounds heal, but he never coped well again with trauma. Locked in a dead end job at a c-store, he told his friend about how many times he moved and how many times he changed jobs. Every Army mission was in the open, in the excitement, but his job, his life sat in safety behind a counter and then Arlie, a Veteran of World War One, came to him with an offer.
