My intention in this work, is to expose to full view the prodigious evil of our jurisprudence, and to suggest a competent remedy for that evil by a reform.
In executing this task, I shall have recourse to no fiction or false hood, neither will I employ improper personal or professional invective; and the authorities cited shall be the most approved and respected (such as Blackstone) even by the bench and bar.
