Dieselben Aufgaben, welche die Recensio in der Ge samtuberlieferung der Sallustischen Schriften zu losen hat, fallen ihr auch in der Partie Jugurth. C. Der sog. Jugurthalucke zu; man hat nach Bestehen oder Fehlen dieses Abschnittes die Handschriften zunachst in die zwei grossen Gruppen geteilt, die Mutili, welche von Jug. An die Worte "(ex omni copia necessariorum) quinque delegit, quorum etc. Bis ceterum Bocchus si ambobus consultum et ratam (pacem vellet) auslassen und andererseits die Integri, welche diesen Ab schnitt in der richtigen Reihenfolge bieten; streng genommen bilden eine dritte zwischen beiden stehende Gruppe die Suppleti, d.h. Ursprungliche Mutili, die von gleichzeitiger oder wenig jungerer Hand die ausgelassenen Kapitel am Schluss nachgefragen haben. Diese Jugurthalucke und ihre Handschriften bedurfen einer gesonderten Untersuchung, da wir es hier ja mit den altesten Handschriften (den Mutili) gar nicht zu thun haben. Vorzuglich die wichtige Frage nach Wert und Herkunft der codices Integri kann nur ge lost werden, wenn wir von der Jugurthalucke ausgehend diese handschriften-gruppe untersuchen. Jordan namlich hatte (praef. Z. 1. Aufl. 1866) vermutet, dass diese Integri samtlich von den alteren Mutili abstammten und dass dieser in jenen verlorene Abschnitt aus einem jetzt verschollenen stark interpolierten Codex nachgetragen sei. Fur diese Ansicht, (die heute 2. B. In Schlee wieder einen Ver teidiger gefunden hat) brachte Jordan neben anderen Argu menten ein beachtenswertes und m. E. Vollgiltiges Beweis mittel bei; es findet sich in fast allen Mutili und vielen Integri Jug. C. Eine unsinnige Interpolation, das Wort feliciter: 'tum rursus Bocchus feliciter seu reputando quae sibi duobus proelus venerant seu admonitus ab aliis amicis ex omni copia necessariorum il (quinque delegit den Grund fur diese Interpolation sieht Jordan mit Recht darin.
