JONATHAN intended to fly his plane to the Bahamas for a leisurely fishing trip, but fate had other plans. Passing through a time warp, he crash lands on the hellish island of Setopia where Local villagers throw him into jail for being a spy. Placed under the custody of SACRAM, a diplomat from the Island's capital city of Latipac, Jonathan is free to explore the village of Seraphs filled with artists and intellectuals who are spared the harsh realities of life in other parts of Setopia. He learns of the city of Latipac, filled with office workers who toil long hours with little pay, and of the village of Sevals whose people populate the factories and are often eliminated by being sent to Detfar, a field of bloodshed. ANIL, the dictator in Latipac, sends his army to Seraphs and breaches a treaty designed to allow the Seraphians to live in peace and harmony so long as they provide scholarly justifications for Anil and the very wealthy Sets to remain in power. Angered by the breach, Sacram takes Jonathan with him to Latipac to speak directly with Anil at the Fuchsia Palace. Jonathan finds Anil to be both a refined gentleman and a hideous beast that, in an instant, can metamorphose into either form. The meeting angers Anil. Both Sacram and Jonathan flee for their lives and into an exciting action-adventure.
