Colin and his sisters, Bonny and Sylvia, go and stay with their aunt Faye by the sea when their fathers go to Loch Leith in search of a water monster. They look forward to staying in Aunt Faye's lighthouse and plan to explore the town. Flushwood Bay is a busy seaside town with plenty to do but it also harbours secrets. The siblings and their aunt are in danger when they are haunted by phantom pirates.
The Monroe parents have moved their family to a new town over a hundred miles away. They left Pointers Peak behind and have moved into an old picture house in Bleakers Bay. Donny is miserable about leaving his criminal friends behind but Nathaniel was pretty excited. That is, until he is visited by a strange lurker who has been hiding out in the basement. He has no idea who she is and he starts to investigate. Twelve year old Ashley is left home alone when her mum, a nurse, starts the night shift at the local hospital. A storm brings down the power lines and the whole neighbourhood is left in darkness. Ashley's afraid of the dark and she fears her babysitter won't make it through the storm. During the night, there comes a knock at the door. Jenny finally makes it...but Jenny isn't all she seems.
