Publisher's Synopsis

She steps out of the library in a hurry and lifts her head to the sky. She has sensed a change in the weather. She holds her head up, observing the sky from left to right and right to left. There is rumbling in the sky. A gust of wind blows past her and shuts the library's door behind her, and as she turns towards the sound of the closing door, a couple of raindrops falls on her forehead, ta-tat...

'It's the Seventh Month, ' she cries out, 'Damina' is here.'

'Keep quiet Saratu. You're disturbing our reading, ' a girl sitting by the window in the library shouts.

'It's the Seventh Month. "Damina" is here. Let's dance and praise the Lord, ' another girl says as she runs out from the classroom that is adjacent to the library to feel the first rain of the year on her skin.

Girls from the library and classes come out almost at the same time and begin to sing and dance for the first rain:

'Good Lord give us rain,
To water and grow our grains!
Dear Lord bring down rain,
To bath and wash our pains...'

Thunder rumbles. A breeze from the west comes and forces their clothes to reveal the shapes of their bodies, making their checks move and wave like flags. The sky is overcast. The weather becomes grey and dull with clouds dancing and hanging over the fields, as the sky intermittently flashes florescent-like light. But rain does not drop. Instead, red dust comes and envelops everywhere, like smoke. The girls sing and dance until the school prefects come and scamper them away.
