Publisher's Synopsis

Ellen Craft and William Craft were born into slavery and eventually escaped to Philadelphia in their early twenties on Christmas in 1848. The Crafts eventually moved to England after the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 and they gave many lectures on their experiences as slaves. They also wrote one of the most compelling slave narratives, Running a Thousand Miles for Freedom, which was published in 1860.
