This volume is a collection of essays to celebrate the 90th birthday of Sheppard Frere, formerly Professor of the Archaeology of the Roman Empire at the University of Oxford. Most concern the archaeology of Roman Britain, which has been at the heart of Sheppard's research interests, and to which he has made such a distinguished contribution.
