Publisher's Synopsis

Romances of the Old Seraglio is a novel written by Horatio Nelson Crellin and originally published in 1899. The story is set in the Ottoman Empire during the 17th century and follows the lives of several characters who are living within the confines of the Sultan's harem, or seraglio. The main character is a young Englishman named Harry Raynor, who is captured by pirates and sold into slavery. He is eventually purchased by the Sultan and becomes a member of his harem, where he falls in love with a beautiful woman named Zuleika. However, their love is forbidden and they must navigate the complex and dangerous politics of the seraglio in order to be together. Along the way, they encounter various other characters, including eunuchs, concubines, and court officials, all of whom have their own agendas and motivations. The novel explores themes of love, power, and the clash of cultures, as well as providing a glimpse into the mysterious and exotic world of the Ottoman Empire. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
