Box set containing three classic movies starring Robert Mitchum. In 'The Enemy Below' (1957), in the North Atlantic during World War Two, an American destroyer detects a German U-boat. The American commander, Captain Murrell (Mitchum), embarks on a game of cat and mouse with his German counterpart (Curt Jurgens). In 'The Longest Day' (1962), an all-star international cast re-tells the events of the Allied Landings in Normandy in 1944. Events are seen from various points of view, including the Germans', in an epic and spectacular style. Along with the 43 international stars, the film used 23,000 Allied troops and despite costing over $10 million to make, it has now become one of the most successful films of its genre. Finally, in 'River of No Return' (1954), a widower, his son and a nightclub singer (abandoned by her husband), travel downstream for various reasons. En-route they begin to form their own surrogate family, which acts as a replacement for the broken homes they have left behind.
