Publisher's Synopsis

- A moving photographic tribute to the life and work of the master of Italian cinema, Federico Fellini - Photographs by the photographer Elisabetta Catalano taken over 3 decades, many not previously published - Accompanies an exhibition at the Cinecittà film studio near Rome Federico Fellini (1920-1993) spent much of his working life at the famed Cinecittà movie studio outside of Rome. This intimate series of images of the renowned Italian film director are part of an exhibition there celebrating the centenary of his birth. Italian photographer Elisabetta Catalano, famous for her portraits of artists and directors, photographed him on set over the course of nearly 3 decades, and many of these pictures are previously unpublished. The exhibition unfolds in over 60 images from the Archivio Elisabetta Catalano and includes the 5 sets of Fellini films that she was called upon to document: 81/2 (1963), Fellini Satyricon (1969), Orchestra Rehearsal (1979), The City of Women (1980), and The Voice of the Moon (1990). Also included are her personal studio portraits of Fellini taken between 1973 and 1993, which show him at his most complicit and relaxed, and outtakes of images that were never printed. These wonderfully moving and extraordinary photographs are accompanied by texts written by film historians, critics, and curators. Text in English and Italian.
