Those were the days when around the sovereign, guiding her action and furthering her policy, were such men as Cecil, vvalsingham, Sir Nicholas Bacon and Sir Christopher Hatton, bril liant every one of them for loyalty and political skill. Those were the days when such men as Drake, Frobisher, Hawkins and Raleigh were laying the foundations Of England's maritime supremacy.
