Publisher's Synopsis

This research is a case study in Vila do Paricatuba, located near the city of Manaus in the state of Amazonas. Its general objective is to apply the use of a biodecomposter as an alternative for the reuse of domestic organic waste in an isolated community, with the following specific objectives: To define the community and the number of families to be affected by the project; To diagnose the socio-economic situation of the families involved in the project; To develop a biodecomposter suitable for the region; To analyze the results in the community following the introduction of the biodecomposter. The theoretical foundation is based on dialectics, divided into three parts. The first deals with composting, the second with solid waste management and the third with environmental education, recognizing three dimensions when analysing, developing or changing waste management: a) the stakeholders; b) the elements or phases of the movement or flow of materials; c) final disposal. The research has an analytical theoretical process and is qualitative documentary. As a result, there was a reduction in organic waste disposed of in the environment, a change in habits and behavior.
