Publisher's Synopsis
The protagonist, Rupert Seed, was born in Boscobelle, St. Peter, Barbados, and emigrated to New York at an early age. Now he returns some thirty-five years later, for the first time, to attend the funeral of his grandmother. On the bus to Boscobelle, he reminisces about life with his granny, who raised him until the age of fifteen; and his parents, who took over from adolescence to adulthood, in New York. During his bus journey, he also recalls the good old days growing up in Boscobelle with his three close friends, Fisher, Stubby and Fowler. Through the eyes of the adult Rupert, the reader gets a glimpse of what life was like in the little village of Boscobelle in the 1950's and 60's. He yearns to meet his childhood buddies again. At the same time, he fears they will reject him because he had forsaken them so long ago. The book reaches its riveting climax when the bus pulls into Boscobelle and Rupert finally comes face to face with his long forgotten friends.
