Among the stellar novels of Tolstoy, along with War and Peace and Ana Karenina, is Resurrection. published in 1899. This novel apparently focuses on a seduction story, but the plot pretext would not be explained without the consequence of moral reactions: the seducer follows the girl to Siberia, where she was confined after being unjustly condemned. .. Repentance and redemption are two ethical values that give the novel an unexpected twist and give the enormous measure of Tolstoy's personality.
When Prince Nekhliudov goes to court to exercise his civic duty as a jury, he does not imagine that one of the defendants is Katia Máslova, the former maid of his aunts, the young woman whom he seduced years ago. Now convinced of his innocence, he feels guilty for the difficult situation in which Katia finds herself and the possibility that she will be sentenced to forced labor in Siberia.

Liev Nikolayevich Tolstoy is considered, along with Dostoevsky, the most important Russian writer of the second half of the 19th century. A member of a family of the old nobility, his childhood and adolescence were spent between Moscow, the great family estate of Yásnaia Poliana and Kazan, in whose university he enrolled in 1844. He participated in the war in the Caucasus and was an artillery officer.
