Publisher's Synopsis

Historically, structural pavement design has been based on static testing techniques, such as the CBR. More recently, the profession has placed increased emphasis on repeated load testing in the form of the resilient modulus test. This test is thought to better simulate the repeated wheel loading of pavements. ""The 1986 AASHTO Guide for Design of Pavement Structures"" specifies use of the resilient modulus of subgrade soils for pavement design. The resilient modulus is currently determined from laboratory or field tests of soils. The papers in this volume relate to the laboratory determination of resilient modulus, and shed light on the experience of practitioners with the test. New testing techniques are introduced since the present procedure (AASHTO T-274-82) is considered time consuming and labour intensive.
