Excerpt from Reports of the Special Committee on the New Harlem Bridge, 1864

That the examinations and investigations as to the claim of Jordan L. Mott to his right to the property taken (or required to be taken) for the construction of the said bridge, and adjacent thereto, in this county, proceed ed before Commissioners appointed by the Supreme Court for that purpose, consisting of John J. Clapp, Saxton Smith, and William S. Tompkins, Esqs.

That they held several sessions, examined a large num ber of witnesses, and this Board was represented before them by Calvin Frost, Esq., as the counsel thereof, upon the refainer and employment of a former Committee of this Board, charged with the same subject, appointed by the said resolution of the 18th day of December, 1862; and the result of such examinations and investigations was the making of a unanimous award or report of the said Com missioners, in favor of the assessment of the damages of the said Mott, for the land required to be taken for the said bridge, at the sum of six thousand dollars.
