Excerpt from Report of the Judges of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania: Of the English Statutes Which Are in Force in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and of Those of the Said Statutes Which, in Their Opinion, Ought to Be Incorporated Into the Statute Law of the Said Commonwealth
It is provided, by the Charter, That the Laws for the regulating and governing of. Property, as well for the Defcent and Enjoyment of Lands, as likewise for' the Enjoyment and Succe?ion of Goods and Chattlest; and likewife as to Felonies, within the faid Province; {hall be and continue the fame as they {hall be, for the time being, by the general courfe of the Law in the Kingdom of England until the faid Law {hall be altered by the faid William Penn, his Heirs or Affigns, and by the Freemen ofythe faid Province, their Delegates or De puties, or the greater part of them.
