On 4 March 1991, Channel 4 TV transmitted a documentary "A Special Hospital", focusing on Ashworth Hospital. It contained a number of specific allegations of improper care or ill-treatment at Ashworth (formerly Moss Side and Park Lane Hospitals), mainly of physical ill-treatment of patients. This important publication sets out the findings of the inquiry into these allegations. Volume II of the report is available separately and contains four case studies of patients from Ashworth Hospital.
