It is but justice that the record of the heroic men who made the name of Kan sas famous by their deeds be perpetuated, and to this end this reprint is made.
It is to be regretted that the time is not sufficient to compile a volume record ing the names and history of the members of the militia regiments who did such gallant service along the border during the dark days of the war. It is a duty that the state-owes to her brave defenders, and, it is hoped, will be performed. Before time and fast-decaying records render it impossible.
