The indexes as now prepared under the law of 1876, are very full and complete, being made in the name of the grantor and of the grantee, and where the name of the tract of land is given, it is also indexed in a separate book. The clerks employed in making the indexes are not paid regular salaries, but only receive pay for the amount of labor actually performed.
