Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Reply of the Delegates of the Cherokee Nation to the Demands of the Commissioner of Indian Affairs: May, 1866

Sincerely desirous of settling, at this time, all subjects requiring fresh treaty stipulations with the Government, and of yielding to it whatever may be proper for our people to concede, we regret that some of these propositions are such as to debar us from assenting to them.
