Publisher's Synopsis
Griffin Reinboldt is videotaping a deposition at a hotel when a fire alarm goes off. He rushes to a smoke-filled room to find a dying young man who had put a gun to his head just after starting the fire. The bullet from the young man's gun traveled through the wall and the occupant of that room, Harvey Earle, is there with a call girl. Reinboldt is recovering from a breakdown after the accidental death of his wife, and Earle is a sixty-year-old Vietnam vet who has lost both legs in the war. Their meeting sets off a chain of events which dramatically alters the course of their lives in a way neither could imagine. The book is set in the environs of Detroit, and that hardscrabble world with its attendant violence spills over into the unfolding of their story.
