Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Remains of Pagan Saxondom

Although it would be difficult to fix the precise time when the Pagan Saxon mode of sepulture ceased in this country, there is yet a very considerable interval during which it must ob viously have prevailed. This period is supposed to extend from the first settlement of the Saxons in Britain down to their final conversion to Christianity, namely, from the middle of the fifth. To the middle or perhaps the end of the seventh century, when the heathen mode of burial probably ceased in this country.
