Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Religious Life in Scotland: From the Reformation to the Present Day
The ecclesiastical history of Scotland has been often written; but little has been done in the way of trac ing its religious life, or of showing, in anything like a systematic manner, how that life has told on the epoch-making movements of the past. This work does not profess to meet so as to satisfy that manifest want. It is not, and does not pretend to be, a history of Scottish religion. To supply that would require something more elaborate. But it is a contribution toward such a history; and its informa tion may be accepted as of some interest and value, because furnished by men who are, most of them, in a sense specialists in their respective departments.
