Publisher's Synopsis
This volume comprises an English translation of Niklas Luhmann's "Religi se Dogmatik und gesellschaftliche Funktion" (Chapter two of his 1977 "Funktion der Religion"), which has been the subject of much discussion and controversy in Europe over the past 15 years. Peter Beyer also provides a 50-page introduction which treats some of the main concepts in Luhmann's abstract and difficult thought and also illustrates the way these concepts fit into his overall theory of society and religion.
