Publisher's Synopsis
The 1999 Police Act made provision for the establishment of the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), which will widen access to criminal records information to employers through the use of 'conviction certificates'. This has the potential to accentuate problems already experienced by ex-offenders when looking for work.;This report, based on a joint project by the Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research (CRESR) and the National Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders (NACRO), features an in-depth examination of recruitment practices within 25 companies. It shows that many employers are reluctant to recruit offenders and suggests ways of addressing this problem, taking into consideration policies adopted by other nations. "Improving the employment prospects of offenders" includes a review of the existing literature about the recruitment policies and practices of employers regarding offenders.
