Publisher's Synopsis
Sometimes, teachers need a break from the norm and want something NEW and Exciting. Here,
you will find the actual Lessons that I have used in Middle School to get my students to love the
creative process. I hope that you enjoy them and I would love for you to email me and share your
experiences.
Students love variety. That is why I created these lessons.
Who am I and how do I know what I know? In other words, why would you want to venture-out
and try something by this guy?
My first job was as a librarian in the local public library for ten years. During that time, I created
their Media Department and was very active in the Young Adult world of Books. I also served
as an officer for the State of Alabama in the Public Library Association. I helped facilitate workshops
at the State Conventions that were usually held in Montgomery, Alabama.
The sessions are numbered, but you do not have to do them in this order. There are a few
sessions that lead to the next session.
You are going to love the way Randy Young teaches in READ WRITE DRAW. A published author
and illustrator and teacher with a sense of humor, and that is just scratching the surface of the incredible
things you will discover in this book.
Each lesson may be taught in order, or they may be switched-around to t your own needs in your
classroom.
Every activity in this book has been used by him in his own classes. His easy to follow instructions
make you feel like you are sitting there with Randy as he teaches.
Some of the Learning Sessions include:
THE IMPORTANCE OF A POWERFUL OPENING
SHOW, DON'T TELL
THINK LIKE A POET
DOODLE DAY
25 WORD CHALLENGE
CREATING A GREAT CHARACTER
DYSTOPIAN LITERATURE
These, plus Twenty-Four other Fun and Amazing Sessions are included in this book.
Sometimes the Sessions lead to great times of sharing with the class. Your teaching will forever be
changed by READ WRITE DRAW.
Every NEW teacher and every SEASONED teacher needs this book on their desk.
Part Two of the book features a section called Teaching 101, which covers so many good ideas and
things to think about for NEW and SEASONED Teachers. Randy shares ideas and suggestions that
he experienced during over 30 years involved in Education of one form or another.
