In Reaching the Omega Point a mentally ill and fervently nationalistic veteran of the Franco-Prussian War, Conrad Hartwin, dreams of seeing his newly unified Germany become a world superpower. To do this, he sets out on a journey into the future where he plans to acquire a vast amount of technology for his country. Unfortunately, his plans go awry when his sister decides to accompany him and he finds himself in the center of humanity's final struggle for survival. With his hopes of introducing a scientific revolution dashed, Conrad must now halt mankind's imminent self-destruction while also trying to uncover the secrets of his past, secrets that his sister has withheld from him ever since he returned from the war with his mysterious amnesia. Is aiding his country his only intention, or is he trying to escape the darkness within him? Perhaps instead of saving the world he would rather simply watch it burn.
