Ray Kirk was born in Leicester, one of thirteen children. He joined up with the RAF in 1941 and travelled across Europe fighting the Nazis war machine during World War II. He took and developed his own photos of his journey across Europe. These include German boat captures, he saw Hermann Goring's private seaplane and also helped liberate Paris. His squadron 2798 was the first British unit into Paris, secretly entering the city with the help of a French underground unit. The book details is journey across Europe during the war.
