Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Radium, Vol. 6: December, 1915

Of the early experiments those of Perthes, Of Schwarz and of Schaper have perhaps had the most bearing on the later development Of the problem. These early investigations were done about 1903-05. The pioneer stage of the investigations may be considered to end with Gager, who has been the most important botanist to make contributions to this subject.
