Publisher's Synopsis
Radio initially developed into a mass medium in the early 20th century. Designing radio devices rapidly became an important task for prominent international designers. This catalogue accompanying the eponymous exhibition at the Museum fÞr Angewandte Kunst (Museum of Applied Arts) in Cologne traces the path of the radio up to the present day - from pure components and wooden boxes, 'cathedrals' and 'skyscrapers', to cult design objects and opulent music cabinets, all the way to fun miniature devices. At the same time, the catalogue is also the museum's 21st inventory and the first to provide a complete survey of its extensive collection of radios.
