Publisher's Synopsis

Ra Ta Plan! is a historical fiction novel written by Dorothy Ogburn. The book is set in ancient Egypt during the reign of Pharaoh Akhenaten and follows the story of a young girl named Merit who dreams of becoming a scribe. Merit's father is a scribe for the Pharaoh and she spends her days watching him work and practicing her own writing. When Akhenaten comes to power, he introduces a new religion that worships only one god, the Aten. This causes chaos in the kingdom as the people are used to worshipping multiple gods. Merit's father becomes a supporter of the new religion and is given the task of creating a new calendar, the Ra Ta Plan. Merit is fascinated by her father's work and begins to help him with the project. She learns about the stars and how they can be used to measure time. As they work on the calendar, Merit and her father face opposition from those who oppose the new religion and the changes it brings. The story is full of suspense and adventure as Merit and her family navigate through the political and religious turmoil of ancient Egypt. The book provides a glimpse into the lives of the people during the reign of Akhenaten and the impact of his religious reforms on the kingdom. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
