Publisher's Synopsis
My daughter was born a beautiful, healthy baby. She smiled and laughed all with a vivid imagination. As she went from baby to toddler, something about her development did not seem right. What started out as fine and gross motor delays, lead to her diagnosis of 4H Leukodystrophy, a rare progressive disease with no treatments or cures. This is our journey. It's a story of love, anger, denial, emotional turmoil, and at times very raw feelings about motherhood. It is not just about the discovery, it is also about fighting a public school system, finding the right specialists and therapists and living in a failing marriage. Although my journey may not be yours, I believe we all follow similar paths when our children begin to show developmental difficulties. My hope is that in reading my story, you might find yourself identifying with the challenges in becoming a special needs mother.
