Publisher's Synopsis
Amusing stories about smoking and quitting? The request was greeted with some incredulity from most quarters when QUIT . For life asked for contributions to this book. But the cogs must have started turning because poems, stories and one-liners flowed in from far and wide. So many people had a story to tell about their first experiments with smoking and their often hilarious struggles to quit the habit, as well as some black humour about the effects on their health.;Many of Australia's newspaper and magazine cartoonists had already been approached for contributions to a cartoon collection with the smoking issue as a theme. A number of the cartoons were exhibited in 1991 at Sydney's Powerhouse museum and attracted much public interest. The exhibition has since toured throughout New South Wales.;"Quit for laughs" brings together the cartoons, stories and poems from both these groups to provide a light-hearted and sometimes poignant look at an otherwise serious health issue. Smoking, quitting, passive smoking, and much more are all transformed through the pens and wits of some of Australia's best cartoonists, including Tandberg, Cathy Wilcox, Dazeley, Rocco Fazzari and Reg. Whether you are a smoker, non-smoker or ex-smoker, you will laugh, chuckle and nod in agreement at the clever comments on the dreaded weed and the struggles to give it up.;"For almost a decade the QUIT . For life campaign has worked to provide residents of NSW with information on the health effects of smoking and ways to quit. The campaign is particularly concerned to reach the younger members of the community. It provides resources and training to schools with the aim of giving children and young people information and education to enable them to make informed decisions about smoking. The proceeds from "Quit for laughs" will go towards the development of school resources.".
