Publisher's Synopsis
In the fictional Eastern country of Aseisun in the early part of the twentieth century, Mito is the youngest member of Takao's Exquisite Quintet, a celebrated troupe of young men who sing and dance in a Western style that fascinates their countrymen. It is not fame, however, that is most on Mito's mind, but Ai, the quintet's eldest member, an exotic bloom in the group's collective midst who challenges Mito's preconceived notions regarding his own sexuality. As Mito struggles to be free from the influence of the quintet, long after the dissolution of the group and Ai travels to the West in search of larger fame, his well-meaning parents and friends make many futile attempts to find him a suitable wife. Matters come to a head when Ai unexpectedly returns to Aseisun and Mito must finally stand up to the group that continues to dictate his life.
